When our partnership with MOW began in May 2015, we started with a donation of 200 lbs. of pet food mostly donated from personal purchases, friends, and neighbors. In eight short months we've seen an influx of donations from veterinary offices, (Carver Street Animal Hospital and West Side Animal Hospital), partner apartment complexes (Lofts at Lakeview, Berkshire 9th Street, Heights at LaSalle), Walmart Stores, Inc., Other End of the Leash, Hope Animal Rescue, and countless wonderful Paws On Durham clients and numerous Durham pet lovers! It's wonderful to see how giving people are to the cause of ensuring the Meals on Wheels of Durham have enough pet food for seniors' pets.
This combination goes well beyond fighting the battle against the hunger that threatens one in six of America’s seniors – it provides the support and peace of mind that enable them to remain safely and securely in their own homes as they continue to age. Meals on Wheels of Durham delivers over 500 meals daily to area seniors. A lesser known statistic shows over half of those seniors have pets! Many of the seniors who receive daily meals share their food with their beloved pets, thereby limiting the nutritional effectiveness of the meal program. While MOW does not budget for pet food, when able, the program provides pet food donated through outside sources like Paws On Durham Pet Sitting.
Thank you again for your dedication and commitment to this wonderful undertaking. This is an ongoing program, so if you have donations for pick-up or if you'd like to drop off donations at our office, please call us at (919)627-8738.

Paws On Durham attended the 40th anniversary celebration of Meals on Wheels of Durham yesterday. The celebration brought together volunteers, drivers, board members, and supports from across our fine city. It was a great way to recognize those who support the program, but more importantly, the very important mission of the organization.
MOW currently serves over 500 meals to senior citizens in the Durham area. Roughly half of those seniors have pets. Enter Paws On Durham Pet Sitting. We are committed to providing pet food to MOW throughout the year. Since our partnership began, we've delivered over 1850 lbs. of food to MOW for distribution to seniors who have pets!
The donations we provide come from our customers, apartment complex partnerships, veterinary offices, and our biggest donator, Walmart Stores, Inc., on Glenn School Road. The outcome of these donations is real and evident. Seniors who receive MOW meals are able to take in the nutrition they need from their human meals, while their pets can enjoy pet food donated from the community.
We're proud of our partnership with MOW of Durham, and we look forward to serving our human and pet community!
